​During the preparation of this edition, Mr. Colin Gunn retired from the editorship but, happily, the experience of this outstanding teacher of pharmaceutics
​has been available to us during the revision. It was he who, wisely, decided
​that it was no longer possible for one author to prepare a general textbook of
​pharmaceutics, and who invited me and several other colleagues from the
​Leicester School of Pharmacy to help with the work.​
